Rising star Kolbe joins Springbok Sevens ahead of Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens

Rising star Cheslin Kolbe has joined the South African Sevens training group, ahead of the Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens.

Kolbe, one of the best young talents in South Africa, last featured in the Sevens squad at the IRB Sevens World Cup in Moscow earlier this year, and since then has represented the Junior Springboks at the IRB Junior World Championship in France.

Neil Powell, the Springbok Sevens coach, said the addition of Kolbe was a huge boost for the squad and said he expects the player to slot in quickly.

“Cheslin is very familiar with our set up because he played for the SA Sevens Academy in Dubai in 2012 and was part of the Bok Sevens World Series squad in Port Elizabeth last December.
“He is an exciting attacking player and someone that will obviously add a lot of value to our existing squad.”

The 12-man Springbok Sevens squad for Dubai will be named on Friday, with the group leaving Cape Town for the UAE two days later.
South Africa is currently fourth on the World Series standings after the opening round at the Gold Coast.

The Springbok Sevens will feature in Pool D – with Argentina, Russia and defending Dubai champions Samoa - on the opening day of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
